XChain is not a company's product with a community attached; it is a public good owned by its community — built, run, controlled and optimized by the people who show up, with the common good of the community and of society as the first priority. No part of it is anyone's private property, and none of it is meant to stay fixed by a founding team.

Open by construction. The code is Apache-2.0: anyone can read it, fork it, run a node, propose changes, ship applications, and benefit — without asking permission. Participation is the only membership, and everyone who contributes value shares in what is built.

Open beyond the code. The direction, the strategy, the technology — and this whitepaper itself — are open. They are meant to be contributed to and, over time, governed by the community: proposed, debated and decided in the open, not handed down. Nothing here is a final word.

Even the founding team is the community. Throughout these docs "We" is capitalized on purpose — it means all of us. The people who started XChain claim no permanent special status: the goal is for the founding team to dissolve into the community it serves, not to sit above it.

Governance is layered: the protocol is already governed on-chain via x/gov (upgrades ship through public proposals + on-chain votes, not private decree); the project's direction, strategy and this document are open to contribution today and, over time, move to community governance — the roadmap in Status & Live Network calls this progressive decentralization.

Figure 4 — Open participation and community governance: contribute, propose, decide in the open, benefit.

Upstream dependencies (Cosmos SDK, CometBFT, ibc-go, Celestia and others) are proven building blocks XChain integrates rather than reinvents — the same open, don't-reinvent ethic, applied to code.

Takeaway: the invitation is not to buy in — it is to belong. Open infrastructure earns trust by being checkable, and stays honest by being owned by everyone it serves, the people who started it included.
